Some advantages include students can get into the career far sooner and with less debt, there is almost always a job for you, and it is a growing career.

Statistics forecasts automotive repair and maintenance industry is expected to add 237 500 new jobs and have a 30 percent growth rate through 2020.

A lot of careers have ended up going overseas. Automotive service and repair is fairly immune to such moves.

Marketing, work in parts, collision repair, and vehicle maintenance are some careers they can have.

The automotive technician role is sometimes called “the portal career” because so many people have started their careers in the automotive aftermarket as an auto technician. It is considered the opposite of a dead career.

I don’t think I would enjoy any of it, really. It is quite literally the opposite of something I am interested in. But, all of the technology might’ve interested me if I cared for it.

I found it interesting that there were so many skills needed, such as communication skills. I didn’t think that many were required.

It would be important to be prepared for lifelong learning because cars are always going to be evolving to newer and more advanced technology, so you have to be ready to accept the new technology.

I think someone should possess good communication skills, problem solving skills, teamwork skills, listening skills, and speaking skills along with being prepared to evolve with technology and be hard working.

NATEF:

The purpose of this organization is to improve the quality of automotive technician training programs nationwide at secondary and post-secondary, public and proprietary schools. Their primary focus is working with people’s skills, including students.

SGS:

The purpose of this organization is to manage your supply chain, provide safe and reliable vehicles, improve quality, efficiency and safety, and reduce environmental impact. Their main focus is to make sure everyone gets the best experience with their cars.

ASE:

The purpose of this organization is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive professionals. Their main focus is to help people with their cars and certify people to work in the industry.

Jobs in the Automotive Industry

If I was required to choose one, I would probably go with the supercar engine builder because they mentioned it was slow-paced, calm, and quiet, which I would enjoy, and that’s about the only part of it that caught my interest. I don’t even know what a supercar is.
